Organized by the Arab Education Forum Safar Fund and Roberto Cimetta Fund in cooperation with The International Association for Creation and Training (I-act), and hosted by the 8th edition of the Creative Forum for independent theatre groups (Europe- Mediterranean), Exploring Mobility Around the Mediterranean — which is a cornerstone in the Istikshaf project — aims to expand on and develop a renewed understanding of contemporary mobility by bringing together people able to think mobility in its widest sense. CHI 2011 Workshop: The User in Flux [ca Vancouver]

CHI 2011 Workshop: The User in FluxBringing HCI and Digital Arts Together to Interrogate Shifting Roles in Interactive Media :: May 7-8, 2011 :: Vancouver, Canada :: Call for Proposals — Deadline: January 14.

When interacting with digital media, people are no longer simply users. They actively shift between various roles: author, collaborator, and even performer. We coin the term “user in flux” to problematize static definitions of “the user” and highlight how roles and practices switch and evolve when people engage in such interactions.

In this two-day workshop we propose using interactive art as a platform to investigate how the concept of “user in flux” can be defined, considered, and targeted when designing for a participatory medium. To encourage a multi-perspective dialogue we invite submissions from: Continue reading

Without You I’m Nothing: Art and Its Audience [us Chicago]

[Image: Adrian Piper, “Cornered,” 1988. Collection Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Bernice and Kenneth Newberger Fund] Without You I’m Nothing: Art and Its Audience :: until May 1, 2011 :: Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, 220 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago.

Over the past fifty years, artists have increasingly engaged the presence of the audience in the conception, production, and presentation of their work. Without You I’m Nothing: Art and Its Audience comprises works drawn from the MCA’s Collection that demonstrate a cultural shift towards a greater engagement for the individual in the public realm.

Beginning in the 1960s, artists such as Carl Andre and Richard Serra used industrial materials to create sculptures that left behind the traditional pedestal to enter the “real” space of the viewer, producing a new understanding of how work could be experienced. Continue reading

Live Stage: Knotunknot [de Frankfurt]

Dana Caspersen | William Forsythe: Knotunknot :: January 21-23, 2011 :: Opening: January 21; 9:00 – 10:00 pm :: Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule, Dürerstraße 10, D-60596 Frankfurt.

In Dana Caspersen and William Forsythe’s Knotunknot, visitors are invited into a social choreography that is realized in two distinct and simultaneous parts. In one section, visitors collectively assemble and disassemble a knotted object, which is mutable and dependent on the strengths and intentions of its makers. The other section is a series of structured conversations between visitors that examine how we shape our society based on our beliefs, assumptions, and values: what we do, both individually and collectively, and why we do it.
